Heirloom Carbon, a direct air capture (DAC) firm, opened its first facility in California with plans to remove 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2035.
The company will receive significant federal subsidies to repurpose captured carbon, and it has already secured a deal with Microsoft to remove 315,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

Despite this, DAC is expected to be a key part of the Biden administration’s efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2035.
