Cruz’s comments come on the heels of a Washington Post/ABC News poll that showed former President Donald Trump leading Biden by 10 points in a potential 2024 rematch.
Cruz believes that the Democratic party may look to Michelle Obama as a “savior” to replace Biden.
“Every time a Democrat or one of their media allies starts pointing out problems with Joe Biden, the chances of Michelle Obama stepping in go up,” Cruz said.
The Obama factor
According to Cruz, Michelle Obama’s “Obama pedigree” and her status as a former first lady would make her a strong candidate.
He argues that other potential candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator Elizabeth Warren, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg would create internal strife within the party.
“Michelle Obama comes in with the armor of a first lady with high positives and relatively low negatives,” Cruz added.
Michelle Obama’s stance
However, it’s worth noting that Michelle Obama has previously stated she has no interest in running for office. In 2017, she said, “Politics is tough, and it’s hard on a family. I wouldn’t ask my children to do this again.” Former President Barack Obama also confirmed that his wife would not be running for president.
