The federal criminal investigation into New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign focuses on whether he pressured fire department officials to approve a Turkish government construction project despite safety concerns.

“As a borough president, part of my routine role was to notify government agencies of issues on behalf of constituents and constituencies,” Adams said in a statement.
“I have not been accused of wrongdoing, and I will continue to cooperate with investigators.”
“After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly. In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators. The mayor has been and remains committed to cooperating in this matter,” Adams’ campaign attorney Boyd Johson said.
“On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an event. The mayor immediately complied with the FBI’s request and provided them with electronic devices. The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation.”
Adams said that he had “nothing to hide.”
