Sheriff’s deputies searching a man’s home found millions of dollars’ worth of goods – a huge legal victory for them, but an even bigger legal loss for the resident.
The items that St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s deputies found in LaPlace, Louisiana, were actually packages and packages of cocaine, approximately 170 pounds. It is advisable to be precise. The street value of that amount is estimated to be approximately $2 million.
The bust was the result of an investigation by authorities early Saturday morning at a LaPlace home, about 30 miles west of New Orleans.
A few days later on September 11, authorities arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with cocaine found on his property, although it is unclear where he was at the time of the search. He was charged with possession and intent to distribute cocaine, a felony, and is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office said it is continuing to investigate the case and shared a photo of their discovery. The image shows 69 bricks of cocaine laid out on a table, some with the word “Jeep” written on them and some with an image of the flag of the United Kingdom.
A report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has found that cocaine production is at the highest level on record amid rising demand following the pandemic.
